Love a good selfie, but notice your skin looks a little less smooth than you’d like? Don’t worry, it’s not your skin, it’s the LIGHT.
The best way to look younger in your portrait photos is to make sure the light complements your face so that it appears smoother. You can still use natural light from the sun, but you’ll want to find shade. If you’re using artificial light, turn off overhead lights and use lamps instead.
If you’re photographing indoors, look for large windows with no direct sunlight. Don’t stand right in front of a window that lets the sun shine directly—you’ll get harsh shadows on your face and appear older than you are. Instead, try standing at an angle to the window so that the light hits one side of your face. Look straight into the camera lens with the window side of your face at an angle and smile just a bit (smiling makes you look younger 🙂
