A dedicated business portrait photographer must know that taking great portraits is all about capturing the moment, with honesty, and a little magic to it.
It’s not about creating something that’s so fake you can’t believe it. Instead it’s about bringing out the best in someone, and making them look like they’ve been caught in a moment of their life that’s perfect for them.
It’s not just about looking good too—it’s about helping the person be real. And about feeling comfortable enough to be their most confident self.
When you take a business portrait, you want to make sure it reflects who your subject is as a person, not what you as photographer thought they should look like. That’s why I spend some time getting to know about my clients before I even start working on their photos. I want to learn everything there is to know about them. And then I use that information to create images that are authentic and genuine representations of who they are.
The Business Portrait Photographer as a Storyteller
A business portrait photographer is like a storyteller. When you’re shooting someone, you have to think about what the story is and how to tell it.
When you’re starting a portrait shoot, it’s important to make your subject feel comfortable. You want to find out why they want their portrait taken, where they came from, what their goals are—all of these things will help inform your work. You can’t just walk in cold and start snapping pictures. It’s got to be an organic process.
The more time you spend getting to know your subject, the easier it will be for them to open up and trust you with their story. Asking questions is great because it helps break down barriers and build rapport between subjects and photographers. It also makes subjects feel more confident, which means they’ll relax more into the shoot and give better expressions!
